Easy Frozen Hot Chocolate – Dairy Free

Easy Frozen Hot Chocolate Recipe – Dairy Free!

This post is sponsored by the Plant-Based promotion at Publix. The opinions and text are all mine.

We’ve all seen the hot cocoa bomb trend this season but here in Florida, the sun is HOT and I’m always looking for something cold. I also still wanted to keep up with what everyone else was doing too though, ya know? So – frozen hot chocolate it is! It’s a creamy blend of real chocolate (not that powdered stuff), dairy-free milk, dairy-free creamer and dairy-free yogurt.

Even though I grew up in Florida, my mom made us hot chocolate every “winter” and I have such fond memories of that. This easy frozen hot chocolate recipe is my grown up, “it’s winter but we live in Florida” version.

Conveniently, the Plant-Based promotion is going on at Publix right now (1/16/21-1/29/21) so 90% of the products that are in this easy frozen hot chocolate recipe are on sale. I’m sure a lot of us are trying to eat more plant-based in the new year and this is honestly such a great way to try new plant-based products without breaking the bank. Here’s a look at the savings on the items I’ve used in this recipe (scroll to the bottom of this post for the full recipe!):

2 for $8 Kite Hill Dairy Free Yogurt or Cream Cheese 8-16-oz your choice

$1 off any Ripple Dairy-Free Milk 48-oz

2 for $5 Nestlé Natural Bliss Creamer (refrigerated) 16-oz your choice

To see what else will be on sale, visit or head to your local Publix to grab the in-store 1/16 Extra Savings flyer to see a complete list of product savings included in the Plant-Based promotion. If you don’t see the Extra Savings flyer in the kiosk at the store’s entrance, ask customer service for a flyer!

What Does Frozen Hot Chocolate Taste Like?

REAL CHOCOLATE. Ok I know that might be obvious, but if you think of the taste of powdered cocoa and actual chocolate…you know they’re different. This is like a frozen sipping chocolate, if you will. Blended together with dairy-free milk, yogurt & a *secret ingredient* coffee creamer, to create a flavor explosion in your mouth.

How To Make Hot Chocolate Frozen

First: You’re going to melt your chocolate. This may be the most important part, because what is frozen hot chocolate without…chocolate?

Next: We don’t want our chocolate to freeze up when we put it in the blender with cold items. So – we’re going to mix a little bit of the milk, creamer or yogurt into the chocolate to “temper” it. Once it’s mixed well with the colder items, feel free to throw it all into the blender. You should be good to go.

Finally: Add everything to a blender and blend until creamy. If it’s not “frozen” enough for you – simply add some more ice.

Storing Your Dessert

As you may have assumed, it’s not very easy to store something with soft serve like consistency. I highly recommend drinking it as soon as you make it for the best quality! If you absolutely must save it for later, store it in the fridge and blend with a little bit more ice when you’re ready to drink it again.

There are certain things I try to do every year and being more plant-based is one of them. But it can be expensive which is why I’m grateful for grocery stores like Publix, who have such insane promotions on products I actually want to try. If you’re in Florida, you should definitely be taking advantage! This particular promotion is running now through 1/29/21. Look for the at-shelf signs located throughout the store which highlight the savings during the promotion.

Regardless – I hope you guys try this easy frozen hot chocolate recipe that just *happens* to be dairy-free. It’s delicious.

  • 1 cup dairy-free chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup Kite Hill Dairy Free Vanilla Yogurt
  • 1 ½ cups Ripple Unsweetened Dairy Free Milk
  • 2 tbsp Nestlé Natural Bliss Coconut Milk Creamer in Sweet Cream

  • In a microwave safe bowl add chocolate chips and heat in 30 second intervals until chocolate is completely melted. This will take about a minute and a half, depending on your microwave wattage.
  • Add 2 tbsp of milk to the melted chocolate while stirring. This is to “temper” the chocolate so it doesn’t harden in the blender.
  • Pour the chocolate mixture and remaining ingredients into a blender with 1 cup of ice and blend until smooth. *If you want it more frozen, add some more ice*
  • Divide between 4 glasses and enjoy!
