A Taste of Heaven – Chocolate For Dinner
Since it is a new year, I’m all about real food. Most of that means knowing where your food is coming from. I will never give up chocolate. It has tons of great benefits and it warms my soul. I was ecstatic to learn about the opportunity for a chocolate tasting at Patch of Heaven Gardens.
Ricardo from Cao Chocolates was more than happy to explain all of the differences between chocolates, as well as share the process in how this liquid gold is created.
We began with tasting a few different levels of chocolates. We started with a white, which IS chocolate for all of you non-believers out there. It’s made with cacao butter. We scaled up the latter until we made it to a 75% dark chocolate from Madagascar – surprisingly delicious. As if I wasn’t in heaven already , the team had prepared a delicious five course meal including cacao in each dish.
Ok let’s get down to business, first course! Creamy Vegetable Soup with Cacao Butter, Topped with Green Onions. Also, as if this experience couldn’t get better, each course is paired with a wine…I would’ve gladly died at this table.
This was paired with Chateau Belingard Bergerac Blanc. The soup was creamy and decadent. I think I might have unapologetically licked my bowl #sorrynotsorry.
Second Course: Spring Mixed Greens Topped with Pistachio, Ginger, Raspberries and Cacao Vinaigrette and paired with La Delizia Prosecco Spumante. The pistachios and cacao vinaigrette make this salad so rich and tasty.
Third Course: Ratatouille Crostini with Crunchy Cacao Nibs Paired with Conquista Malbec Mendoza. This dish was a family recipe and you could definitely taste the love.
Fourth Course: Meatballs with Dark Chocolate and Tomato Sauce over Creamy Mashed Potato. Paired with Mondavi Private Selection Meritage Cabernet Sauvignon. I’ve never had a tomato sauce with chocolate in it and I don’t ever want to go back.
Fifth Course: Panini with Dark Chocolate, Mozzarella and Prosciutto. Paired with Columbia Crest Grand Estate Merlot. I don’t usually like playing favorite but oh MY this was delicious. The salty sweet carb combo is just everything.
Dessert: Chocolate Mousse Topped with Chocolate Crumbles and Raspberry Sauce. This was insanely rich and delicious. I don’t think there was a spot of food on my plate when I was finished.
This experience was out of control and if you will, a real taste of heaven.
Cao Chocolates and Patch of Heaven Gardens will be hosting a tasting on January 28th Tickets can be found here and 100% of the proceeds from this event benefit the creation and expansion of the existing forest and cacao trees.
